A few years ago Brian and I set out on a mission to find a unique space that we could use as a studio for our portrait photography. While driving around Central Phoenix one Sunday afternoon, we passed an histroic red brick building around 7th Street and Indian School Road. We love old architecture so it caught our eye…..then we saw the ‘Studio for Rent’ sign out front!
From the moment we entered the building, we loved it. It reminded me of the art building at Arizona State University (where we met). The space available had beautiful north light streaming in the window. Renting it was a no-brainer!
We use our petite studio for child and small family portraits, senior portraits and engagement sessions. High school senior girls love it because of the livingroom style set up we have. Complete with vintage velvet furniture and wood floors. Senior guys like it because of the urban location. We can take them outside and use the alleyway for some more masculine images.
The other cool thing about this space is that the building is on the map of galleries that participate in the First Fridays Art Walk in Phoenix. It has grown to become one of the largest monthly art walks in the country. The other artists in the building are painters, pastel artists, printmakers and mixed media. Being surrounded by other artists truly inspires us!
We just love photographing in our petite studio! Check out some of the images we’ve created there!
